London Unity League
Venue: Victoria Park
Report by: Niall Dumigan
Phoenix succumbed to a 4-1 home defeat against early league favourites LondonĀ Romons. The East End boys went down early on with a perfectly weighted lob from the Romans no10 catching Phoenix goalie Niall Dumigan out of position.
Phoenix clawed one back early in the second half with a perfectly lifted cross from James Mabbutt being faithfully dispatched by leading our leading goalscorer, Jack Bailey. Phoenix looked to capitalise on this with some promising runs of play and seemed to be getting them back in the game.
Unfortunately at the worst possible time, Romans scored their third with another wonder strike from their no 10 from 18 yards out. As phoenix chased the game a mistake at the back allowed clinical finisher Jay through to score Romans' fourth goal, sealing Phoenix's fate.
A difficult day at the office but Phoenix will look to turn the tide next week in their home game against rivals Charlton Invicta at Hackney Marshes.
